coming next from adult only: the repress of one of the most sought-after 12s from the label back catalogue. ao19: “formula express – main course” was originally released in 2002 and featured guillaume la tortue, jef k and chris carrier.
this is actually some of the last records ever produced by the mysterious guillaume la tortue, one of the pioneer of electronic music in france, who’s quoted by laurent garnier in his infamous “electrochoc” book as one of his main influence back in the days.

the record opens on the “main course”: a classic tech-house number with a beautiful 909 beat and a tasteful use of various samples and fx all through the track. the funky vocals still sound fresh today but the secret here (as often with chris carrier’s related work) is the groove – the kind of groove that reminds you summer days in the park while the strong bass-line announces already the next track.
on the flip, “starter” stands out as the perfect dancefloor killer with an infernal groove and a real fat analog bass-line that will keep you moving whether you want it or not. add just a few crispy tribal percussions on a classic raw 909 beat and you got the simplest and dubbiest song of the record but also the most efficient dancefloorwise.
the last cut, “apple pie”, might be the deepest of them all. spacy melodies and trippy vocals in the background make you first feel like you’re chillin on some extraterrestrial beach far away from earth. it starts as a nice breakbeat building the atmosphere before slowly evolving into a more 4-4esque tech-house with the bass coming in only after a couple of minutes. even if the sound was resolutely analogic, the whole ep is extremely well produced with a special care for details. at many levels this three-track ep is a landmark in the label history.

as we head into dansolso s jungle we first encounter a slurry of dub-techno, infused with wd41 s love for tape these giant sounds represent his debut on the label. next we encounter toke, based in tbilisi he has mastered the subtitles of the dance floor developing his own unique flavour of a classic style, for mt004 he supplies perfect twilight accompaniments. el choop based in the uk has been honing his craft relentlessly since his introduction to the scene, skeleton crew reflecting this with its polished hard hitting style sure to satisfy many a dance floor.

oufoufof represents the beginning of a new turn for shxcxchcxsh, one born out of a fresh conceptual approach to rhythm. having concentrated in recent years on music for more experimental scenes, shxcxchcxsh wanted to create music for the club, but not with the usual 4/4 approach. ...the main focus being our relationship with the dancers minds and how we do our best to fuck with them . stylistically, the project began with a discussion about rhythm, about what is interesting and what is not. the result is a conceptualized approach, one in which multiple sounds in each track are based around a single rhythmic pattern. this concept has been extended holistically, to track names and artwork. ultimately, what began life as a series of records has evolved into an eight-track lp of twisted, polyrhythmic studies in pattern and texture. fresh off the back of shulululu ep for avian, oufoufof, is the fourth studio long-player from the swedish duo and will be released on their own label rosten

ricky force makes a quickfire return to repertoire after the success of make it right / suburban nights. -everything- is an apache-driven slow burner that moves through the gears into a euphoric breakdown. hands in the air vibes. -special- is a no-nonsense amen track, the kind that ricky does so well, built for the dance floor.

the ohmgrown series is about more music and less industry. its dub phizix way of getting his ideas to people in the fastest way possible. the entire process- sound design, writing, mixing, mastering will be done in-house by dub phizix, as are the visual elements to accompany the music. there will be no set sound or aesthetic to the series instead the focus is on giving people a window into where he’s at musically and what is inspiring him at the time of creation.

acidic powerhouse bill converse makes his debut on fit sound. his sound is a refreshing perspective informed by the midwest warehouse parties of which he was schooled mutated into his own blend. treading the line between melody and brutality, while never being heavy handed, converse has proved himself once again to be a true original lurking in the underground today.

poker flat recordings drop a new four track ep from greek techno / house producer thanasis voulgaris. under his kindimmer moniker, voulgaris has been putting out quality dancefloor music since 2010, including a handful of releases already for steve bugs iconic poker flat label. ‘merge, the title track sets the tone with a killer, propulsive rhythm, adding chopped up organ stabs and shuffling funky percussion. ‘swift changes has a similar deft touch, all slinky chords that bring about thoughts of the classic detroit sound, while adding his own signature take. ‘its coming is a little harder, with a booming kick and tricky hats, before opening up into another deep bomb that will keep the more discerning floors in raptures. ‘ride with me flexes its funk - the groove jacks a little harder and the vibe is definitely ready to make the basements sweat.

berlin collective mechatronica continues their limited, vinyl-only white series dedicated to sounds across synth, new wave, ebm, italo and electro, with a split ep by danish producer nixxon and italian dance wave wizard franz scala.
nixxon’s gloomy, cosmic electro slow-roller opens mechatronica white 2, followed by the heavier sounds of west, driven by razor-sharp synth stabs, voodoo percussion and a colossal bassline to boot.

at the forefront of the irish electronic music scene, sligo-born berlin-based duo brame & hamo, aka tiarnan mcmorrow and conor hamilton, announce their hotly anticipated fourth ep, celebrity impersonator. via their own imprint, brame & hamo. the title reflects the duos personality and playful energy, nodding to their love of celebrity impersonators whilst growing up. we have a bit of a soft spot for impersonators as it is a pretty ridiculous way to earn a living. a bit like djing! our favs were those of tom cruise, bill gates, gordon ramsay and johnny depp. opening with ‘midnight express, the rolling melodics nod to the early sounds of prog house and italo, acting as a transitional opener to their signature trance via techno scores. on the b-side, title track ‘celebrity impersonator, is a moody four four that edges into the darker realms with their love of breakbeat shimmering through, resulting in a club ready anthem. melting down into a rolling trance groove with a late night heady feel, ‘request rhythm closes the ep. with an impressive discography of eps behind them on their own imprint - trants, club orange and the dj favourite, limewire, as well as bookings worldwide the irish pair are set to propel onwards from sligo to berlin and beyond.

the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

russian drum & bass producer black barrel is one of the most sought after producers to come through the ranks in recent months. after his discovery by ant tc1, a tastemaker who’s founded the careers of many similarly talented artists, he was brought into the fold of dispatch recordings and has since dropped a plethora of heavy-hitting releases which have solidified his place within the genre. with support from many of the underground scene’s pivotal heads, including break, radio 1’s rene lavice and dlr, his widening back catalogue is finding itself within major clubs globally.

visionquest return to their special edition vinyl-only series and welcome a new friend to the family: greek craftsman bodj. following a remarkable run of releases on the likes of his own audiorama and memoria earlier this year, the athens-based dj continues his vein of form with these four wide-ranging tracks... ‘parusha’ takes the lead with warm tones and textures. airy pads and an insatiable chicago-like bump to the voluptuous bassline ensure this grabs full attention the moment it enters the mix. it’s backed by three other vital cuts that express bodj’s true breadth and vision: ‘miaplacidus’ celebrates one of the brightest stars in the night sky with a stripped back, sub heavy hypnotic groove, ‘phantom’ kicks with timeless house dynamics that subtly evolve, twist, turn and fold into each other over its eight minute journey before we end with the wonderfully titled ‘trip to planet love’. once again showing bodj’s scope and stylistic flexibility, it closes the show with a hip-wriggling electro twist. slinky breakbeats, bubbling bass and a space-age feel, it’s every bit as cosmic and full of love as its title suggests. a perfect way to end another perfect visionquest trip. happy travels..

almost one year in the making, bulgaria s outstanding techno talent lands his return to drumcode with a four-track ep. timmo (aka valeri ivanov) doesn t do things in half measures. since the release of his excellent system ep last year and muzik , his inclusion on a-sides vol.6, he s committed himself to crafting, refining and polishing a quartet of cuts inspired by the cosmic realms beyond planet earth. titled meteorite, its release marks 10 years since he first began producing and stakes its claim as a resounding career highlight with tracks already highlighting gigs for adam beyer at tobacco dock, awakenings, future kappa festival and junction 2. beginning with the title track, the streamlined work throbs with a searing synthetic pulse. black moon sees the ep land its first blow, kicking with a mixture of undulating synths and understated hoovers. spacetime stays true to its name delivering intergalactic techno vibes. cosmos concludes the work, taking us into extra-terrestrial dancefloor territory, with a barrage of trippy synth work and a melodic underbelly the makes the track both beautiful and heavy-hitting in equal measure.

following previous appearances on station shiva and discos pandemicos, estrato aurora makes his first appearance on bliq with some advanced deep techno immersions that match the profile of the label perfectly. ursus dolinensis takes a slow ride into submission, placing all the emphasis on the low end and using subtle background frequencies to shape out the atmosphere. lunanosorex takes a particularly tripped out approach to electro, while glyphodon adds a little industrial bite into the machine funk framework without losing that steely atmosphere that makes the whole ep so appealing. leonids remix of ursus dolnensis is the perfect complementary addition to the ep the dolly and sistrum artist adds his own rugged deep techno machinations to the track to deadly, understated effect.

the olympos series paused briefly, but now makes a welcome return thanks to the efforts of hermes, the messenger of the gods. whether he produced the tracks himself or they were ghostwritten is unclear, but they re a fantastic addition to the greek mythology focused minimal electronica label. astraia is a twinkling delight of mournful deep techno, while eidolon heads into introspective minimal electro territory with some seriously crafty beat programming. stasis meanwhile strikes a warm, laid back note that harks back to early uk techno might the track title be a tribute? the record closes out on phone, a grainy, sullen jam with some crunchy broken beats and plenty of needlepoint sound design going on.

deru aka benjamin wynn is an emmy award winning american composer and music producer. deru’s last record, 1979, dealt with individual human emotions. his new project, torn in two, zooms out and deals with human existence as a whole. it finds feelings of frustration, dissociation and anger, but from a high vantage that affords perspective and allows the project to include acceptance, beauty and tranquility. torn in two is set for release on october 19th via friends of friends (anenon, shlohmo, perera elsewhere). the music lives in evolving landscapes of violence and beauty, with compositions that shape-shift, flutter, and decimate one s sense of time and place. the album is a collection of microtonal pieces where the pitches were derived from acoustic instruments, and processed woodwind and brass recordings. both represented new directions for wynn, and the results are pieces that are more dynamic and full-spectrum than his previous body of work. they explode into walls of distortion and recede into quiet acoustics.

phonogramme, the house subdivision of parent label and integral parisian record shop syncrophone dedicates itself directly to the french music scene, with previous releases from the likes of professor inc, john jastszebski, aleqs notal and a handful of other local heads. phonogramme continues to keep things close-to-home through the labels next edition presented by gibs, who s most notably known for works on his own imprint, an.art records – a family run label with music shared by himself and his two brothers. find an oasis kicks off the release with rolling organic percussion before progressing elegantly into layered emotive lead synths and mellow bass stabs. jarkarta is a subdued deeper house cut, filled with an uplifting, undulating melody and raw lo-fi elements collectively creating a luscious calming effect. last up, der germain offers up a fluid, groove filled number balanced with charming, jazzy flutters and tender keys providing a warm, breezy atmosphere to the end the release.

berlin based techno titan frank muller adopts his beroshima alias for a new four track ep that is already been hailed by the likes of marcel dettman and laurent garnier. first emerging in the nineties, muller has since become a techno great who has played from asia to south america and beyond. he’s had plenty of underground hits on the likes of cocoon and soma, and held some key residencies over the years. always one to command your attention with his multi layered grooves, this ep features an old juan atkins sample “buy some shit from detroit” that has been part of beroshima’s live sets for years. excellent opener ‘encounter’ reflects a recent idea jeff mills and muller had to produce tracks together for a not yet produced sci-fi movie. it is an eight-minute astral techno trip with smooth, driving drums and plenty of intergalactic synth lines. ‘the passion of lovers’ transfers the organic beroshima style into 2018 and shows off frank’s passion for spaced out electronica. it’s a brilliantly bumping cut with lithe synths and melodies adding that soul and colour as it races through the galaxies. the iconic ‘buy some’ with the atkins sample then surges into the future with icy hi hats dancing over rubbery drums. the warped synths take the lead and bring a real sense of off kilter energy to this most timeless bit of techno. last of all is the fantastic space mix of ‘encounter’ which is dreamy and cinematic with exquisite keys and pads colouring in a huge night sky as the drums drive things along. this is an archetypal techno ep filled with cosmic colours and serene emotions.

„spectral decay” is a collection of musical reflections about the paradoxical contemporary state of humankind, whereas its own technological, social, cultural and economical development seems to entrench the possible points of a structura downfall. the narrative of „spectral decay” starts with heavy, mesmerizing industrial vibes. due to the notable sound design techniques of japanese artist tetsumasa, his hefty piece „nex” evolves into a harsh but still amazingly cinematical music sculpture. subsequent mid-tempo composition „onzour shayatini” by meer dynamically follows the dark, experimental path of drone and noisy structures. violent accents smoothly lead to the deconstruction of drum & bass patterns and turn into strident 90s metal riffs. the track progressively penetrates obscure subterranean abysses and becomes a perfect introduction to the next theme by yuji kondo – „hades”. in greek mythology hades was the ancient god of the underground kingdoms, darkness, death and metals. therefore, kondo’s music piece turns into an infernal portrayal of the underworld where tenebrous layers of bass frequencies, raw textures and drexciyan sounds build up an enormous and lasting tension. side b begins with the track „anthropocene” produced by arboretum co-founder – mogano. the whole composition refers to the present geological epoch we live in, characterized by environmental pollutions, depletion of fossil fuels and accelerated urbaniza- tion of the world. it is a deeply conceptual soundscape of a powerful system, that incorporates both – the destructive forces of technology and the infinite energy of the whole universe, that interweave in a devilish dance of post-techno, breakbeat and dub tones. thereafter, ~raw in his piece „poly bios” pictures the interference of human structures in the nature. creating a mosaic from indus- trial and tribal, organic sounds, he tells a mystical story of fear, hope, escape and primeval instincts. the narration concludes with an atmospheric composition of nwrmntc – solo project of ana quiroga from experimental ambient duet lcc. „beyond” is a boundless, spectral reflection on collective human consciousness, where haunting vocals evoke a recon- dite, ineffable pain, leaving the listeners in a profoundly meditative state. laura polan&#769,ska

aos’ boundless love for music is apparent in everything she does. as a producer, a dj, and an event organizer with seattle’s secondnature and tuf collectives, kayla waldorf’s vision eschews traditional categories and genre boxes in favor of an ecstatic spontaneity. her dj sets are well known for their playful energy and narrative threading between many different styles. violent light is aos’ first offering on secondnature’s own label, and it captures this playful essence. the title track’s stomping groove (complete with rave whistle) sets the tone, while lullaby and what/why move into headier territory composed of dusty synths stabs and clouds of vocal effects. finally, secondnature’s own fugal delivers a remix that flips what/why into a rolling depth charge.

super deep african / new age / minimalistic / ambient crossover from cabo verde - not the typical record, a beautiful listening experience check! originally conceived as a book of 6 poems that developed into a record released independently in 1986, universo da ilha sits at the cross-section of many different genres. connecting contemporary new age and ambient minimalist movements with traditional west african and cape verdean elements from the past (griot voices, djembe rhythms, melancholic morna), vasco constructed his own universe where, in spite of the isolation of the island at the time, he transcended barriers and created a global record that was ahead of its time vasco used his own synths and drum machines, and with the help of a small group of friends (tey gonçalves on percussion, neney’s amazing griot voice, luis morais on sax and flute), he recorded this not-balearic-but-atlantic ambient odyssey on a 16-channel peavey mixer directly to an akai tape recorder without overdubs.

pal joey (aka joseph longo) came up in the heady days of new york street culture, amidst b-boying, boom boxes and an unusually entrepreneurial spirit of beat-making. beginning with crude “pause tapes”, he was soon making tracks with drum machines and sampled vocals, all painstakingly assembled with razors and reel-to-reel. working at vinylmania, where larry levan might be found shopping for records in his pajamas, helped joey’s entrance into the city’s nascent house music scene, and he was soon working with everyone from krs-one to sade to the orb, whose “little fluffy clouds” he tweaked for stateside tastes.
true to his city’s inclusive spirit, pal joey consistently blurs the lines between disco, house and hip-hop, dropping scraps of old soul and recent rap alike over his skipping drum patterns and head-nodding keyboard lines. joey’s records (under his principal moniker and also aliases like earth people and soho) have appeared on jive, epic, talkin loud, wave and coco machete. he also has run three labels of his own - loop d’ loop, cabaret and footstompin records.
